Plane delayed

... due to ramp being unavailable and thus everyone had to take a shuttle bus from the terminal and climbed the manual stairs up to the aircraft. Well, SQ is usually on time but on this occasion, unfortunately not for me. A good reason to travel light.

Housekeeping

The house was getting dusty. Despite my attempt to sleep at a decent hour yesterday, I ended up going to bed at 4am. I lied in bed for the longest time counting sheeps (er, maybe not... more like day dreaming), but was unable to switch off. Ended up fiddling with my laptop in bed, upgrading Norton anti virus program, downloading music, and changing the layout of my blog to include a video slideshow at the bottom page. After all that, it was only fair that I woke up at 1pm. Most of the afternoon was spent wiping dust that has accumulated on the furniture over the last week. Clean surfaces make a huge difference. I also re-organized cabinets and our photo racks in the billiard & study rooms. Evening I spent in the garden watering our roses. From the garden, I cut off a dozen of red roses and they are now sitting beautifully in a vase right in front of me as I type. This is what I've been up to today, nothing too fancy. Just enjoying the simple things in life.

Drools

Currently watching: Hana Kimi (Taiwan Drama), based upon the Japanese Manga 花ざかりの君たちへ. Singapore has only released the DVDs up until episode 10. And since this is the only series I had fortunately misplaced in my luggage rather than send it with the rest of my acquisitions via post, I am trying to slow down my speed so that the 10 episodes would last me over this long weekend. This guy, Wu Zun, from the taiwan band "Fahrenheit" is hot! =O! Damn... I'm definitely living in the wrong country.

Happy Australia Day! And it's going to be a stinking hot weekend here...

Trip recap

5 short days but did plenty. Attended a wedding in Jakarta, ate Founders Bak Kut Teh with Nat/YH, ate at Boon Tong Kee chicken rice with Oka/Robin/YH, followed by ice cream at Serene Center, and subsequently beer at the pub near my house. Bought a few nice tops and shoes, ate Punggol Seafood Restaurant with Oka & my family yesterday before I left. Hung out with my nephews a bit, though this time when I see them I realize that they have grown up a lot. But now I'm back at work on a Wednesday afternoon with only 3 hours of sleep. I need to have a good night's sleep!

Singapore, baby

Leaving for the airport at 2pm. Have already checked in online, packed my luggage (except for toiletries), recharged my camera/mobile phone, and I'm good to leave work at 1pm. It's all good! I am looking forward to supper tonight and will be getting my mani/pedi done tomorrow morning at 8:30am. And of course I can also squeeze in a little shopping time too. =)! Will blog again in 5 days' time.

Parenting 101

it is crucial not to condone Princess Complex in your daughters next time... that, coupled with innate bitchyness in the female species would make her a public enemy at school and a menace to society eventually. It is also important for them to be sensitive to the feelings of others and understand the concept of respect. I find it amazing how there are so many parents in this world who are overprotective of their children, some severe cases even making their children believe that they are people they are not and as a consequence they have become irritants to the environment. Please be a little more considerate and do not let your children become one of these delusional brats! Because honestly, after the age of 5, you are no longer considered cute. (Unless of course your life long ambition is to become Sailormoon).

I read again

Bought 3 books from Borders yesterday while roaming the city to kill time:
1) The pursuit of happyness - Chris Gardner
2) Marley & Me - John Grogan
3) A long way down - Nick Hornby
I started to read the pursuit of happyness and discovered the joy of reading again. In some ways, I feel more rewarded than spending hours in front of the telly or indulging in drama series (as a friend told me, escapism in its finest form). This has been one of those weekend where there's absolutely no schedule, bored as I might be, but it really gives me the time to reflect on what's important to me and the pitfalls of married life (of almost always having to have something planned). I also spent some time with Milo in the backyard, trimmed and watered our blooming roses, enjoyed my cup of coffee while breathing in the morning fresh air. We do have beautiful, blue sky here. I never saw it this way before.

Long distance traveling

is quite a scary thought for me, considering I haven't flown long distance for 5 years now. I am quite used to the luxury of flying 4 hrs and I'm back in Singapore. However, I am definitely looking forward to revisiting the US. The plan is to visit NYC, Chicago, & Toronto. Woo hoo! And being an Australian, I now qualify for the visa waiver program to the US. HEE. Makes traveling so much easier.

2 yrs from the big day

Yes, today's our wedding anniversary and I sure as hell ain't gonna work late (given that I have already been working 7 days straight). Tsk. Anyway, if I feel a bit better tonight, we might go out for dinner. :) 8 years together I have learnt that we do have quite a bit of differences but with a bit of give and take, it will all work out. Ultimately, I know that I love him. I just need to work on becoming a better buddhist, like Nat told me. :). Happy Anniversary, Oka!

Pain in the ass...

are people who are totally oblivious to other people's feelings and worse still have the perverse pleasure of rubbing it in, adding salt to an open wound, pouring wet blanket on other people's good news... well you get the idea. It's amazing how maturity and age is not simultaneous.

Welcome 2007!

It's back to the grind for me today. I'm currently in the office clearing my emails but haven't yet gotten around to getting work done because SAP is currently down. The IT helpdesk is working on a resolution but it will not be until 5pm that it will be up and running again. So there really isn't much point in hanging around here. I'm waiting to be picked up now and finally I can go home and relax and start unpacking my suitcases. :) My holiday was fantastic, the weather & food in Hong Kong was a blessing, Vivocity in Singapore is such a good shopping place away from the festive crowd at Orchard Road, hanging out with my nephews, sis, & my parents in Jakarta was worth the additional time I spent flying. In the span of 8 days, I was able to catch up with a few old friends I have not met in ages. It was a good, much needed vacation. Happy 2007!
