Be happy :)

We have been pre-programmed to always think of the long term and to think of the consequences that come out of our actions. It is most definitely a good thing, but today I am finally able to see it through the eye of someone who lives for the moment and understand it from the other person's perspective. What if there is no tomorrow? If there is something you want to do that makes you happy, do it. If you want to travel somewhere, make plans and go. If you are constantly unhappy about your job, make an effort to look for one that truly suits you. We shouldn't let others dictate our lives, but should rather live for oneself and loved ones. Afterall, life is too short.

I'm loving Friday

... because morning traffic is always more at ease. It took me only 20 minutes to get to work this morning. Despite the fact that I've woken up late, I still get here earlier than I normally do. And it's the weekend! Woo hoo!!! I need to:
1) complete my corporate accounting assignment
2) pick up my alteration from the city
3) eat and sleep plenty

8 years ago on a roadtrip

It must have been about 8 years ago, in early 1999 if I recall correctly. I remember it was damn hot in the middle of summer. And Nat & company had left us behind to catch a plane back to Berkeley. We almost dehydrated and had to postpone our journey back until the sun had set. Yes, and it wasn't very bright of me to get $5 of gas from that dodgy gas station in the middle of the desert. hahaha. Hmm... the things I did in the past & hmm maybe still do. Funnily, as of late, I've just had another friend who said that song reminded him of me & my white toyota corolla then.

Special dinner

I've been trying to look for a restaurant to eat dinner one of the following weekend and while flipping through the entertainment book, I came across "Spirit of the West" - a 3.5 hr five course meal onboard a restored historical train. The train will depart at East Perth and apparently journey through the countryside. I'm hoping for good weather and a clear sky so that we can catch the sunset. I wanted a private booth for our dinner but they are pretty much booked out for the rest of September. I guess I'll have to settle for the 1st week of October. Can't wait! :)!

We need more franchises

Famous Amos is here. I think the franchise has been brought in here by a Singaporean. The people working there are Singaporeans for sure, but I'm not sure if they own the store. I'm glad there's yet another familiar brand here. I wish they would bring more of the clothing brands here but I think until the majority of the people here maintain a healthier weight, they ain't gonna fit in those clothes...

Dad's in town

10 days flew by and tomorrow my Dad will be leaving for Singapore. We decided to skip class tonight and went out with him for dinner. We brought him to Ciao Italia for pizza & pasta. My relationship with my Dad is not what you see on typical American TV, where the daughter and father have a close physical relationship. I don't recall giving my Dad a hug for the longest time until my wedding last year. It was the weirdest feeling but also a good feeling. Till this day, I am so thankful that my Dad is able to walk me down the aisle. I guess since I am the youngest child and the age gap between my brother and I is like 9 years, I have always feared that the day I get married either of my parents will not be there with me... I've always wished we could have more things to talk about and not be so uptight around each other, but I guess the way he shows his care and concern is different. He's been brought up in a typical conservative Chinese family and I guess he has brought the same values to my upbringing. This is when I find out that Oka has played a huge part in changing my outlook of life. So now I'm kinda in between the 2 ends if you know what I mean. But regardless, I am glad that he has come visit us and the most important thing is that he has enjoyed his short holiday. He probably needs the vacation and a break from all the dramas back home.

A waste of time...

How many hours do we spend on commute each day? Today, my total commute took up about 3 hours. 1 hour 45 minutes drive to work, 45 minutes drive from work to Uni, 30 minutes drive from Uni back home. Holy shit, you would think that I live in a city like Perth, surely traffic would be smooth and easy! Drizzle a little and you have people driving at 5km/hour, not to mention the train construction that's currently taking place which leads to closure of lanes on the freeway, and today was one of those days where I had driven along a stretch of road with continuous red lights. (Note: I need to get a chauffeur). 3 hours commute, 8 hours+ at work, what other spare time do we have left??? Is this all we are living for?

What's for dinner?

The birthday boy

From last night: Gershwins was excellent. Talk about great service and ambience. If you are looking for a romantic dinner place, this is it. Eat while the pianist plays at the background. The waiter really made an effort to service us well. So anyway he asked us what special occasion it is for us and I told him it was Oka's birthday. Oka's dessert arrived with a candle lit on it and as it is being brought to our table, the pianist played the birthday song.
Early this morning, I picked up the birthday cake and here are photos of the birthday boy & his cake:

Dinner at Gershwins

It's Oka's birthday tomorrow. He's turning 29. And goodness, we've been together since June 1999. We're going to celebrate tonight because it's Father's Day tomorrow in Australia and we don't wanna be celebrating amongst the Daddies. Dinner's at Gershwins tonight. Yum. A chance to wear some of the new dresses I bought from Singapore what with the weather warming up... :)!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBBY!
