Investment house hunting

House hunting can be quite a tiring ordeal but I suppose it's got the element of fun as well putting through offers, almost like a gamble. We have been looking for houses South of the river (where we live) and decided to venture out North today. It's quite a pleasant surprise and we might actually get one in the North that fetches a higher rental price. We went to Kulcha cafe for lunch today, sort of like an Asian cafe serving Thai/Vietnamese/Chinese dishes - lunch special was only $7 and decent food too. Talking about food, I will be indulging myself with good food again next month! Woo hoo! Back to S'pore baby!

My afternoon today was spent mostly at our garden trimming roses, weeding, sweeping out old leaves. Pretty much, yeah gardening. We bought a new outdoor bed for Milo this morning and situate it next to our new outdoor bar stool and table. We figure once the weather cools down in a month's time or so, we should be able to sit outside sipping coffee and eat a hot cross bun or something. I am officially broke! My paycheck this month has gone to a new PC, the veranda, outdoor furniture, a cocktail dress and I'm sure there are more but nevermind...

My new desktop

I'm finally going to retire my HP desktop that's 5 years of age. One of the many benefits from working at Rio Tinto is the corporate discounts you get. In this case, I think I will be able to get a 5-10% discount from Dell. Mining is such a huge industry in Western Australia now. Just this week in class, we were discussing the wage explosion in the mining industry, people earning 6 figures working on sites, it's unbelievable. But they figure the resources might get depleted in 15 years' time and the mining boom might be over then. Just like how the IT industry was booming once and it has slowed down since. I'm definitely going to make the most of my career in the next 10 years within the industry and see where that takes me. Hopefully after completing my Masters and CPA qualification and the work experience I accumulated in Australia, it will wind me with a great job in Singapore. But if that doesn't happen, I guess I am destined to live in Perth. So anyway, I'm excited about the new desktop I'm getting. Woo hoo! I'm finally going to get a 19" flat panel LCD monitor! I know in this day and age, who still has the bulky CRT monitor? I do and I'm getting rid of it and I'm happy! :)

Semester 1

It feels kinda strange to be back in school and be surrounded by young people! Even though it's a postgraduate class, the students are unbelievably young with a few exceptions of working adults like myself. Majority of them are also international students and you almost won't feel like you are studying in Australia. Thinking back, the US university classes were definitely a lot more engaging & interesting, with more open discussions. Last Friday, I had to sit through 3 hours of lecture with the professor reading straight from the powerpoint slides! Some students from China also decided that they would cure their own boredom by talking amongst themselvs in Chinese. Sigh. I miss being a student in LA!
